Los Angeles Food | Restaurant Reviews

I will be sharing my experience (along with helpful tips on parking, what to get, what to expect, personal opinion on foods, etc.) from restaurants around the Los Angeles area!

MEXICAN FOOD

SOL Mexican Cocina in Playa Vista, CA

Attire/Vibe:

I mean, it’s Los Angeles, so basically anything goes. This is a clean and nice place, but it’s super casual as well! We went after a hike so we were in workout clothes. So just wear whatever :)

Parking:

There is street parking right out front, but if those spots are taken, then I would park in the Whole Foods parking garage and walk over! It’s a really cute block of businesses and super safe place to walk. We got street parking the first time we went, and it was free! Then when I came back to bring my husband, we went to the parking garage.

Type of Restaurant:

This is a sit-down restaurant with waiters that serve you. The first time I came, I sat in a booth “inside/outside” that was closed in, but more like a completely covered patio area — it had the best view of the sunset through its little plastic zipper windows! We had heaters on us too, so it was the perfect temperature. The second time I came, we sat at a table more on the “inside” area. Both were super comfortable!

When You Sit Down:

We sat down and immediately got water brought to us and the waiter filled up our glasses. Then someone brought chips, salsa, and this amazing bean dip with pumpkin seeds. We also got this little tray that had limes, hot sauce, and salt!

SIDE NOTE: This is the FIRST place I’ve found in Los Angeles that gives you complimentary chips & salsa when you sit down… it immediately made me feel like I was back in Texas! It’s one of my favorite things about Mexican restaurants!

The Service:

This place had EXCELLENT service… I have been to many restaurants around LA and this place (although I’ve been only twice at the time of writing this review) was very attentive and communicative both times. I never had to question where my water, food, drinks, or check was. They have a really great team that seem to care about being efficient and hard working.

The Prices:

I honestly thought the prices were really great in comparison to some other places I’ve been to! We did go during Happy Hour, so that probably helped. I highly recommend trying it out during their Happy Hour times of 3pm-6pm on Monday-Friday!

Overall Thoughts:

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant to eat in LA. I do really love Tocaya for more of a “order at the cash register and sit down or take it to go” type of vibe, but to sit down and have a dinner with some good company and GREAT tasting food… this is the place to go!
